Mardi Gras King Cakes are true
to New Orleans heritage. The story dates back to the birth of
Christ. Twelve days after his birth, he was visited by the three
wise men that brought gifts to honor the new king. We rejoice
for Christ’s birth and again on the Epiphany (January
6th) to honor the three wise men that are also called kings.
To honor them, people made
sweet cakes and ate them on the twelfth night. Alas, they were
named King Cakes. Now, Mardi Gras and that tradition are a little
different. In New Orleans, we still have those delicious King
Cakes, but ours are a little flashier and maybe even tastier!
After all, they are Mardi Gras King Cakes.
We stuff them with all kinds
of scrumptious fillings and then cover them with creamy icing.
Try our Praline Pecan or Apple! For a little zing, we add some
colors... the traditional Mardi Gras colors: green, yellow and
purple. Oh, and to make it even more interesting, here in New
Orleans, we get to eat them from the twelfth night all the way
up to Mardi Gras. But, hey folks, on Ash Wednesday, that’s
it for Mardi Gras King Cakes until next year, so log onto ekingcakes.com
